The Gospel Harmony Boys were organized in Huntington, WV in 1952, by Harold Lane, a member of the Southern Gospel Hall Music of Fame. Throughout their half century history, this group of professional men has been given many honors and has attained many goals. These include the distinction of being the first gospel quartet to ever appear on live network television as the guest of Dave Garroway on NBC’s “Today Show” in the early 1950s. They also hosted the nation’s first weekly scheduled gospel music television program that was regular viewing for a million fans in West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky and Virginia for nearly two decades. The GHB still can be seen on TV by way of their videos and guest appearances on several popular shows.

Holmes County Steam and Power Show (Mt. Hope)

August 3-5, 2017
The Steam and Engine show is held annually on the first weekend in August. The show features a Horse Pull on Thursday evening, Tractor and Steam Engine Pulls Friday evening, and Steam Engine and Antique Tractor activities throughout the weekend. The steam traction engine was the predecessor of the gas tractor. It was used for belt and drawbar work. The steam engine used fire to heat the water in the boiler to make steam. It then used the expansive force of steam in a cylinder to create power. The steam engines at the show will be kept busy powering a sawmill, threshing machines, power-eater, Baker fans, steam engine games, and spark shows at night. Admission: $5.00, Children 12 and under are free.
